Praise and Thanks

Published on August 17, 2011 by in God's Glory

I just have to take a minute to praise and thank Jesus. He has showed up in a big way for Melissa and I over the last couple of days. I took my wife to the ER on Monday morning with severe headaches, back/neck pain, joint pain, and a spotted rash all over her body. We had no clue what it could be but knew that we needed to get it checked out. She was in a terrible amount of pain and could barely move–so much so that I had to pick her up to help her get out of bed. This was so tough for me seeing my wife suffer like this–she is the most precious thing to me in this life aside from Jesus, so it broke my heart to see her in so much pain. Anyway, the ER took literally 8-12 vials of blood for tests, cultures, etc. They also conducted a CAT scan to rule out brain injuries, tumors, etc. and a spinal tap (which was a quite an experience to say the least) in order to rule out menengitis.

Melissa was eventually admitted into the hospital after about 8 hours of being in the emergency room. At this time another doctor examined her–it was noted that the rash seen this morning had begun to fade away. Also, the test for menengitis had come back negative–PRAISE GOD! He felt the best plan of action was to give the situation some time–to keep Melissa overnight and monitor the symptoms to see what happened. The doctor believed the rash was possibly due to an allergic reaction to something and that the aches/pains was due to something viral. An insect bite was also a substantial possiblity. Melissa was treated with some meds, and thankfully slept through the night rather well. In parallel, we had spread the word for our brothers and sisters to be praying for whatever was going on, for healing, and for wisdom for the doctors and their diagnosis. Tuesday morning brought barely any sign of the rash at all; she was still in some pain, however it was much less than the day before. Later that day, we received news that all of the blood tests/cultures that were completed came back negative. Again, PRAISE GOD! They then decided to release Mel yesterday evening which we were both thankful for.

As of now, Melissa is still resting and recovering. She is still in some pain; however, we are continuing to pray through a complete and full recovery for her. She is getting better with more rest. I am just so thankful to Jesus for answering prayer and for providing us with brothers and sisters who offered so many prayers and encouragement. It was a really tough situation; however God was faithful through it all. Melissa and I talked and prayed through all of this and continued to remind ourselves of God’s sovereignty and provision. It was so easy to worry and let fear creep in especially when the doctors seemed to be baffled; however, we put our trust in Jesus. We knew that He would take care of us no matter what happened and that ultimately, He would be
glorified. We have continued to praise and thank Him for the good results and for a complete recovery for Melissa.

In a time like this, I am reminded of Romans 8:28 which states, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” We knew that everything was going to work out–that God was sovereign over the situation. We knew that things would work out for good–not necessarily what we think is good in our own terms–but rather what is good in the eyes of our Lord–that Jesus would be glorified through it all. We knew that He would receive glory and honor, that we would learn to trust Him more, and grow closer to Him. Being able to rest in the sovereignty of God is a beautiful and freeing thing. When we rest in Jesus, we have no need to worry–no matter what happens–He will be glorified. I can honestly say that Jesus has taught me so much through this situation–how to trust him more, how to conform to his purpose/his will, how to love and serve my wife better, how to praise and thank Him more. It has been a truly enlivening experience. Even though it was an uncomfortable situation, God used it for His glory as Melissa and I grew closer to Christ and closer to each other.

I am so thankful for a Father that loves us so much–all praise, glory, and honor be to you Lord Jesus. You are God. You are King. You are Sovereign.
